About Lone Star LMS

A comprehensive livestock management system that's free, modern, and built for real-world farm operations.

Complete Farm Management Platform

Lone Star LMS is a full-featured livestock and farm management system designed to help you track, organize, and optimize your entire operation — all in one place.

Animal Management

Track every animal with detailed profiles including health records, breeding history, lineage, weights, and custom fields. Support for all livestock types from horses to poultry.

Health & Medications

Log treatments, track withdrawal periods, set vaccination schedules, and monitor herd health. Automatic alerts for upcoming treatments and withdrawal expirations.

Location Management

Organize your property with flexible location hierarchies — barns, pastures, stalls, and pens. Track occupancy, assign animals, and maintain chain of custody records.

Scheduling & Tasks

Create recurring tasks, set reminders, and manage your farm calendar. Auto-generate tasks based on stall assignments, protocols, and care schedules.

Care Protocols

Define age-based and weight-based care protocols that automatically schedule tasks. Perfect for vaccination schedules, deworming, and regular health checks.

Feed Plans

Create weight-based feeding formulas with supplements and feeding schedules. Calculate optimal feed amounts automatically based on each animal's current weight.

Inventory Tracking

Manage feed, supplies, medications, and equipment. Track stock levels, set reorder alerts, and log usage. Link inventory to expenses for complete cost tracking.

Expense Tracking

Log expenses by category, link them to specific animals or equipment, and track tax-deductible items. Generate summaries by month, category, or custom date ranges.

Stock Shows & Events

Manage stock shows, vet visits, and external events. Track animal check-in/out with QR codes and provide external caretaker portal access for delegated care.

Our Pricing Philosophy

Enterprise farm management software typically costs hundreds or thousands of dollars per year. Small and mid-size farmers often can't justify that expense, leaving them to manage operations with spreadsheets, paper records, or memory alone.

Lone Star LMS will always be free for our alpha users who helped build this platform with their input, expertise, and real-world experience. After initial production, new tenants will pay a small monthly fee to cover operating costs. We're not here to maximize profit — just sustainability.

About the Developer

I'm the founder of Northern Technical Systems, an IT services company providing managed services, structured cabling, cybersecurity, and software development to businesses nationwide from our offices in Fort Worth, TX and Los Angeles, CA.

I'm also a ranch hand for local ranches and a farmer at home. That hands-on experience with livestock and land management is what drove me to build Lone Star LMS — a Land Management System, like a CMS but for managing your land, livestock, and farm operations.

Special thanks to Shuggs McDavid for sparking the idea. I asked her if she had an idea for a digital solution or app, and that conversation is what started it all.
